Waltaher 9mm PPS
By Rick
Review Date: 02/19/2008
Rating: Waltaher 9mm PPS
Outstanding little pistol! I bought the weapon prior to retiring from federal service. I have about 300 rounds through the gun without a failure of any kind. It's accurate beyond what would normally be expected of a "pocket" pistol and powerful enough to get the job done. The trigger was good from the beginning but is improving with time...I would highly recommend this little pistol as a backup or off duty carry. A variety of holsters are beginning to hit the market now that it's apparent this Walther is a winner.

This is a great little pistol. In the endless search for the perfect conceal carry weapon, this is probably the end of the road for me. I have carried everything from the traditional PPK/S, the P-99C, S & W 642 and even the new Ruger LCP, which is a great pocket pistol on it's own. In the PPS, I finally have a compact, reliable, ergonomic gun in a respectable caliber. I'm very happy with my new Walther.

Just purchased this little gun and so far I am extremely impressed. Finally a light and accurate carry gun. The only gun comparable would be the Kahr which is an excellent gun as well. I have put 300/rounds through my PPS AND AND NOT ONE PROBLEM. The only thing difficult is getting used to is the trigger guard magazine release. We are all creatures of habit! It will not take you very long. If you are having trouble with finding a holster you may want to try the Galco Royal Guard made for the Glock 26/27... I have been wearing this holster everyday for a month and it is very comfortable. I hope I have been of help with your purchase or decision to get one of these great guns. Good luck in finding one,it took me 2/months!

Great little gun! I have put 400+ rounds thru it, no problems. I shot a 1 1/2" 16 shot group, at 30ft today. This was standing, unsupported. I consider this pretty darned good for a short barreled pistol. Double taps are easy , and tight. I carry it in a belt slide and a pocket holster, very concealable! I am most satisfied with this pistol and highly recommend it!!!

Exceeding greatness PPS 9mm

This pistol is my first personal fire arm. The performance is outstanding compared to my police issued glock-17, which I have never had a problem with . I have fired a few walther's and really wasn't comfortable with them until I saw a walther magazine with the PPS on the cover and it caught my eye. I start reading the mag and started doing some research during the 7 months of my training in the police academy. I always remembered what my firing instructor told me about finding a weapon that shoots the same and that I can be familiar with and this Walther PPS is just that. The Walther is easy to clean like my service pistol and shoots just as well, if not better. I just bought mine today and shot 250 rounds through with no problems. If anyone is having problems with their aiming I suggest the push-pull method like you would with a glock and remember even height even light. :)

WALTHER PPS REVIEW

Rating: WALTHER PPS REVIEW
JUST PURCHASED THE PPS IN 9MM, I OWN A VARIETY OF PISTOLS AND HAVE FIRED JUST ABOUT EVERY PISTOL MADE. I ALSO OWN A KAHR IN 9MM WHICH I DO LIKE. THE PPS FOR SOME REASON CARRIES MORE COMFORTABLE INSIDE MY WAISTBAND THAN MY CAR. THE PPS IS SLIGHTLY LARGER BUT MORE SPREAD OUT SO IT SEEMS TO LAY FLAT AGAINST MY WAIST EASIER. I'VE ONLY FIRED ABOUT 150 ROUNDS THROUGH IT, FED EVERYTHING FINE AND WAS VERY ACCURATE. THE TRIGGER FEELS A BIT GRITTY HOWEVER I DO LIKE THE SHORT TAKE UP IN IT. I'M CONFIDENT IT WILL SMOOTH ITSELF OUT OVER TIME. THE PISTOL FEELS AND POINTS LIKE A H&K P7 TO ME. THE ONLY REASON IM GIVING 4 STARTS INSTEAD OF 5 ARE 3 REASONS. 1. THE MAGAZINE RELEASE IS A LITTLE HARD TO REACH AND NOT INTUITIVE IF YOUR USED TO A BUTTON RELEASE. 2. THE FINGER GRIPS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE MAGS MAKES IT A "LITTLE" MORE CUMBERSOME TO CARRY A SPARE. 3. THE TRIGGER GUARD IN MY OPINION, IS A LITTLE TOO LARGE AND SEEMS TO CRAMP MY HAND WHERE THE TRIGGER GUARD MEETS THE GRIP. WITH ALL THAT SAID. I STILL LIKE THE PISTOL AND ITS THE MOST COMFORTABLE GUN I HAVE EVER CARRIED. KEEP IN MIND YOU WILL CARRY THIS PISTOL PROB MORE THAN YOU SHOOT IT. THE MAGAZINE BUTTON IS JUST MY PREFERENCE, I DOUBT AND HOPE THERE IS NO NEED TO DO A COMBAT RELOAD, HOPEFULLY AFTER 8 CHUNKS OF LEAD IN A BAD GUYS DIRECTION HE WILL TAKE NOTE OR BE UNABLE TO. DID I MENTION THIS PISTOL SHOOTS GREAT.

I have a Witness Match 45 ACP and can put 50/50 through a qualifying target. I bought a Kahr CW9 for a carry weapon, but only hit the target less than 40% of the time. It just didn't feel right in my hand. If you are going to carry a concealed weapon, you need to be accurate with it. I then tried a Walther PPS 9mm and hit the bulls eye on the 2nd shot, and had an overall score of 48/50, including 7 inside the 2 middle circles. The difference might be the adjustable back strap (which fits better in my hand) but this little gun is awesome. As a grandparent, I also appreciate the safety of the removal backstrap (no safety on the Kahr) and the chambered round indicator.

Fantastic 9mm. carry gun! I've tried many guns for concealed carry but this one is the easiest to carry. Lies flat and very comfortable even while sitting. So far this gun has worked flawlessly, no failures of any kind. The PPS is very accurate for such a small gun, even better than my K9 Kahr. My S&W 340 pd and Kahr K9 will be kept in the safe now, The PPS is my favorite carry gun now.

This gun is excellent for concealed and shooting. I've tried over 200 rounds on this baby in an hour span and no jamming. Although expensive, this is the one for self defense and I will be carrying it with me. One thing I would have to say in this gun, IT'S AMAZING!!!

Lots of guns over the years. (36 years of Law Enforcement) PPS handles, shoots, and conceals well. If you are having trouble finding a holster a Glock 26 holster works well.

This is an outstanding little pistol! I have small hands and this slim little pistol is a perfect fit. I've put about 350 rounds through it so far without failure of any kind. It's very accurate and recoil is easily managable. Some have complained about the pistol being ugly...I don't think so. I'm not fond of the gray, first editions but the black are great. Although it would probably work fine as a pocket pistol, I prefer to carry it in a strong side holster on my hip. Still looking for a proper holster for it but it's still new so it may take a little while. I have absolutely no complaints.

Bought mu PPS today and ran 100 rounds of old ammo through it flawlessly. I like it better than my Tarus 38 revolver, KelTec 3AT, Khar CW 40 or NAA Guardian. The PPS is big enough to get the job done and small enough to hide easily! I have big hands....no problem! This gun is accurate and comforatable. I hightly recomend it! My gunsmith carries a PPS and recomended it to me. It will be my favorite carry pistol!

Being a retired police officer, I've handled a lot of firearms over the years. The ergonomics of this handgun is amazing. It just feels good in your hand. Accuracy and recoil management are also excellent. Although there are only couple of hundred rounds through it, if the Walther name means anything, I don't expect any failures of any kind. As far as holsters are concerned, check out highnoonholsters.com .

I have been looking for a good concealed carry gun for quite some time. I finnally decided on the walther pps, and im really glad I did. Its light, thin and very comfortable to carry, and fits my hand like a larger automatic. The magazines are a little akward at first. The large base, and odd angle takes some practice to get used too when reloading. All in all though its a great firearm!

Great size, well made, the trigger is a bit gritty as mentioned in a previous review. It is very accurate at close range. I'm still getting used to it after firing thousands of rounds through my service Glocks, it feels a bit different but I love it.

It''s hot in Florida most of the year and the PPS fits the bill perfectly in casual clothing. It can be carried in a pocket but the weight makes the belt carry better. This 9mm replaces the .32 I carried before. The PPS shoots every kind of ammo I feed it, no jamming even with cheap Russian or Pakistan military rounds. It''s had about 2000 rounds and the trigger feel improved. The trigger action is a little stiff and the angle with my finger is a little awkward until I figured out how to adjust. Sighting is good and right on from the factory. I''m just an average shooter and it is no problem to get 6-8 groups at 7 to 15 yards. Cut that to 4-5 with slow deliberate shooting. I''m giving it 4 stars because the shooting is better with a 4 barrel pistol. But so far there is no better concealed carry.

I put my hands on one of these for the first time as a friend had me tagging along to advise him on a good firearm for CCW. We shout about 6 pistols that day. He''s probably fired less than 200 rounds in his life through a pistol, but when he used this pistol his shot placement improved dramatically. It had absolutely no functional problems for him. When I tried it out, I couldn''t beleive I was shooting a 3.2 barreled pistol. It performed like a full 5. Recoil was incredibly manageable, and I never had a shot stray. We were both very surprised at it''s clean trigger pull compared to the other pistols we shot that day. Bottom line: He''ll be buying one for his CCW gun, and I''ll be replacing my current carry pistol with a Walther PPS.

Super low profile 9mm

This 9mm is my backup to a G30SF 45. I have over 1000 rounds through it and have no trouble hitting center mass at 7 yd. It is super thin and striker fired like the Glock and feels similar. Watch out if someone tells you a story about it being hard to firethey probably haven''t fired one. Being a light pistol, you do need to manage recoil, which is not a problem. Go fire at least 200 rds before you try personal defense loads. Mine likes any ball ammo with rare extraction jams with aluminum cases. Had feeding problems with Hornady Critical Defense ammo ]nose crushes[ so I tried TAP-FPD 147 grain and that worked. Settled on Remington Golden Sabre because they have a 124 grain JHP round that is not +P. The 7 rd magazine is great for CC and the 8 rd mag gives support for all fingers to maximize gun retension in a fight.

This is the perfect CC personal defense weapon. I purchased one in 2010 after trying many other 9mm. This is easy to carry inside the belt and close to the body, it perfectly fits the hand, feels solid but not heavy, and the sites are the easiest to align of any 9mm I tried. It shoots great. I am not the most accurate marksman with a revolver but I consistently shoot all 9s and 10s at 7, 12 and 15yds, both slow and rapid fire. The only problem so far is that some low powered indoor range ammo will not result in the slide locking back after shooting the last round. I have fired about 400 rounds through the weapon so far. However, when shooting personal defense ammo I have not had this problem.

I purchased this gun about six months ago. I was looking for an ideal conceal carry firearm with enough barrel to make it accurate and firepower to protect myself and my family. This gun fit the bill for everything I was looking for. I was originally focussed on the glock 26 and the compact SW M&P both in 9MM. I then came across the Walther PPS in 9MM but in a slimmer design making concealed carry that much better. That and German engineering sold me this gun. I have fired 150 rounds through it and it shoots wonderful. On a couple of occasions in the first box of ammo, the slide did not close completely and required a small push. But after break-in, awesome.

Walther PPS NOT GOING INTO FULL BATTERY

I Love this gun. Everything is great about this gun the size, the weight and 9mm to get the job done. I own other guns and never had a range failure with Walther PPKs, Beretta 92, and Springfield 1911 etc. But my first range run with this gun was not good. It wouldn't always go into full battery the side wouldn't close for the next round. This seen too happen on the second or third rounds with a 7 round mag. So far I found out the gun may be Ammo picky. I will tell you it dose not like Winchester Winclean or Remington Gold Saber.

PPS .40 cal review

bought the .40 cal for my wife, who has never shot before. took her to the range to try it out, along with my browning high power .40 s&w. initial impression from both of us was that the browning felt like a fine-tuned machine, while the pps felt like a toy. this is not a negative, just our perception of feel. after 100 rounds or so, my wife prefered the pps over the browning. shee was able to keep it much more stable by the end of the shooting, as fatigue was setting in with her in simply holding the guns up to aim. accuracy with the pps was impressive. by the end of the shooting, she grouped her last 6 shots in an 8 inch circle from 50 feet. very impressive indeed, especially for a complete rookie. the only negative with the pps is the rigid plastic backstrap part of the grip. it rubbed both our hands raw due to the raised ribs. her palm was beat red, and she had to stop shooting. hence, the 4 stars. it really needs a rubberized coating over the backstrap to increase comfort. but otherwise, we both really liked the pps. it performed excellent. the trigger throw was quite long compared to the browning, and somewhat harder, which led to some initial jerking prior to firing. but it wasn''t really an issue after getting used to it. outside the rigid, ribbed backstrap, this gun gets 5 stars. very impressive shooting from my wife...in her very first time out.

the ergonomics of this pistol are really comfortable for people with medium or small hands. apparently the 8 round magazine accomodates even larger hands, but the 7 rd mag works well for me. very slim as was its purpose, being designed for concealed carry. easy to take down and maintain... the only issues i have with it are the occasional ejection failure (i still gave the gun 4 out of 5 stars because im giving it the benefit of the doubt of not having gotten it through its break-in period yet.) ive put around 200 rounds through it and occasionally it will stove pipe an empty casing in the chamber. also, the issue seems to be more frequent when i use 146 jhps so that may be more of the problem. overall, its reliable enough that i would recommend it for ccw purposes (and i have) and slim enough to be subtle and stowed just about anywhere...

It has been twenty five years since since my last weapon left my hands.Recently, I have been on the hunt looking for the right carry and have settled for this jewel. If it shoots and handles as good as it feels and looks, I have read with enthusiasm all of the testimonials and have a great feeling that I made the right choice. It is being shipped in and I should be able to pick it up this coming week. I can't wait to try it out.I will be back to this forum and will give my personal opinion on the real action.

This is the best concealable weapon that I have used. I own the Glock 23, 19 and a 5 round revolver. By far, The PPS is the best. It has the smoothest trigger pull and right out of the box gave me a great shot pattern at 15 yards. I highly recommend this pistol.
